Static electricity is a charge or electricity collected in one area.

  • Builds up on the outside surface of an object
  • when the charge accumukates to about three million volts there will be a spontaneous discharge(spark)
  • A static generator(Vande Graff) is used to demonstrate the static build up and spontaneous discharge.
  • Voltage can be increased:

1.incresing the diameter of the sphere.

2. increasing the atmosphere pressure

(drier, cooler air or pressure chamber)

  • Force fields-----THEY ARE REAL!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Electrical fields exist because of the attracting or repealing force between charges.
  • This force is quantified using Coulomb's Law:
